Volunteer involvement policy

  1. DEFINITION OF A VOLUNTEER

A Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal (JCF) volunteer is anyone who, without compensation or expectation of compensation beyond agreed-upon reimbursement of expenses incurred by such person on behalf of the JCF, performs a task at the direction of and on behalf of the JCF. A volunteer may be engaged by the JCF, not as a volunteer, but in his/her professional capacity subject to the JCF’s Conflict of Interest Policy. Volunteers include Officers, Board Members and Committee members.

  2. COMPLAINTS

A volunteer may make a complaint pursuant to the JCF’s Complaints and Financial affairs Whistle Blowing Policy.

  3. CONFIDENTIALITY

The JCF expects its volunteers to respect the confidentiality of the donors to the JCF.

  4. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST AND OTHER CONFLICTS

The JCF expects its volunteers to deal with conflicts of interest and other conflicts pursuant to its Conflicts of Interest, Other Conflicts, and Confidentiality Policy.

  5. ORIENTATION

The JCF will provide new volunteers an orientation session including a review of this and other policies noted in this document.

  6. STAFF RESPONSIBILITY

The JCF staff member ultimately responsible for volunteer stewardship is the Executive Director. Complaints or issues concerning staff should be directed to the Executive Director.

  7. LIABILITY INSURANCE

The JCF undertakes to purchase Director’s Liability Insurance covering all volunteers.

  8. NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE

The Nominations Committee shall nominate the JCF’s Board and Officers. It should review the performance, impact and succession risks of each volunteer and determine development opportunities and suitable plans.

  9. SCREENING

With the help of the Executive Director, the Nominations Committee for directors and Committee Chairs for committee members should screen prospective volunteers and determine if extraordinary screening mechanisms are needed.
