Focus on special needs

Some 150 professional advisors – lawyers, accountants, notaries, insurance brokers and other financial professionals - attended the Foundation’s 2011 Professional Development Seminar.

This year’s program addressed issues involving clients who have special needs – a field which is growing rapidly, according Barbara Novek, co-chair of the JCF Professional Advisory Committee (PAC), which presented the conference.

“The theme resonates with many of us,
as we are called upon with growing
frequency to assist clients faced with
caring for elderly parents
or for children with permanent
and often severe disabilities
who are unable to care for themselves.”




The program offered several strategies and perspectives from presenters Jamie Malus, Solomon & Malus Notaries; Marilyn Piccini-Roy, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP; Samuel Dergel CA, CPA Independent Trustee for Trusts & Estates and JCF Executive Director Bobby Kleinman FCA, who discussed the Foundation’s Special Care Trust.

As in previous years, several professionals were honoured for their successful efforts to encourage bequests and gifts to the Foundation.


A special testimonial was presented to Marilyn Piccini-Roy for her leadership and expertise in furthering the understanding of the intricacies of trusts and protective supervision.
