Shaping our Future : Connecting though culture

The mandate of the cultural grants committee is to award funds for cultural programs designed to enrich Jewish life, literacy and promote social networking. Over the longer term, the objective of Jewish outreach is to increase participation in all aspects of Jewish life in Québec while encouraging the Jewish community’s contribution to the province’s unique cultural and linguistic landscape.

We hope to attract the growing numbers of Montreal Jews who do not participate in the traditional elements of Jewish life, such as community schools, synagogues, camps or charities.

The committee will consider various types of cultural programming that employ traditional or non-traditional means such as the internet and other new media in order to reach wider audiences. Funds will be awarded to individuals and organizations who submit high quality proposals for programs that explore themes with Jewish content designed to address one or more of the following aims:
  • Encourage affiliation with the Jewish community, or develop programs that investigate issues relevant to Jewish values or experience
  • Inspire Jewish learning and connectivity at pivotal stages of life, particularly amongst teens, young adults and young families
  • Further understanding and communication between the Jewish community and broader Québec society
  • Promote the use of modern technology and new media to stimulate interest and interactivity
  • Inspire partnerships between creators of culture and those with the capacity of disseminating creative output
  • Development of innovative programming
